..Me

Well, I’m Adam. And I’m back in Seattle!

I most recently lived in Washington D.C.– my wife graduated from the Georgetown School of Medicine in 2008. She moved to D.C. for a masters degree program, which she completed in 2004, and we made “the other Washington” our home for four years. While adjusting to East Coast living, I created a career at Starbucks Coffee. I know… I didn’t have to move across the country to do that! But I had a great experience: I managed three different stores, including a brand-spankin’ new store right on the Potomac River in Northwest D.C. It was surprisingly interesting and rewarding work.

Before D.C, I lived in Japan, working as an English teacher for the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program. I worked in a city in central Japan called Tsu in Mie Ken– it’s about an hour south of Nagoya and an hour and a half east of Osaka. I arrived in Japan at the end of July, 2002. Prior to that I was a ski instructor at Jackson Hole, Wyoming. I’m originally from Seattle, and that’s where I spent my summers doing temp work. I spent two years in Jackson, and I had a great time: good friends, beautiful scenery, and some darn good skiing. I went to Seattle University and studied physics and humanities. I graduated in the spring of 2000 after spending a year at Worcester College, Oxford. I had a great time in England, and was able to travel around Europe a bit. I even made it to Morocco and Turkey, and I got to ski in the French Alps! So that’s pretty much my life story after high school. Going back any further would take much more time. But if you’re really interested, you can read all about it here.

..This site

I’ve had a website in various forms since sometime around fall of 1997, I think. Some university servers here, a couple of free hosts there, and eventually I got myself here. The current version of this site is hosted by Cirtex Hosting and uses WordPress and Gallery software. I use the wpg2 plugin to embed Gallery into WordPress; I also use Postie and SideBlog for the Moblog sidebar. Andy Moore’s WordPress Mobile plugin makes this site readable from your phone. Before I had this domain, I was at Desultory.com, but I got lazy and let it expire. I don’t think I’ve ever had a consistent design or layout for more than a year: I like to make and design sites more than actually using them. Kind of like my Lego habits when I was a kid. Anyhoo, I’m trying to make this site standards-compliant, but fiddling with all the templates of the software I use is proving to be quite a task. So while the intent is there, my site is not quite compliant. If I think a page is getting close, I’ll add a “valid?” link at the bottom of the page allowing you to check, using the W3‘s validator. Like I said, no promises, but at least I’m trying. Let’s see… anything else? The site is divided into three major sections: About (you’re here now), Blog, and Photos. So please have a look around, make yourself at home, and let me know what you think!
